When speaking of drastic political wranglings, reporters and talking heads have *meltdown* on their tongues. Lots of meltdown. A senate meltdown will precede the nuclear option to prevent a filibuster during SCOTUS nomination hearings. Yesterday there was a meltdown in the U.S. Senate as Senator Harry Reid invoked Rule 21 and sent the body into forced secret session.
The Clog Almanac offers up these words as alternates to "meltdown" when speaking of Senate business: Smackdown. Slapdown. Shakedown. Takedown. Breakdown. Showdown. Hoedown.
